The eye of the storm

Being a Life Sciences teacher, I always find it helpful to teach the learner to draw a parallel with what they know and with new information. Easiest way to do this is to find comparisons between two entirely different things e.g. jellyfish and octopi both have hydrostatic skeletons which immediately tells us that they live in aquatic biomes. Camels are greatly adapted to survive arid areas. I mean come on, law of nature states: Survival of the fittest. So I bestow on you the analogy of human and camel to find peace from within.

  Adapt to dry conditions

As I have already stated camels are adapted to survive their physical environment. So you know that water is not found in abundance in a desert, what camels do is that they excrete urine in the form of crystals, to lessen water release from their body. Water is a vital part of survival! Next time you get in a senseless argument with someone think of the camel, hold the water inside (your words) and excrete urine crystals (listen and nod). Even if you disagree with the person. I can assure you that person will give up and let silence radiate in the atmosphere. It will also make that person think a little deeper as to how unworthy his/ her action was. The choice is up to you: be a right fighter or a silent observer.

Adapt to sand storms

When there is a sand storm in a desert a camel goes down on its knees as a mechanism to protect itself from the sand storm. Next time you are caught in a sand storm caused by yourself go low into the depths of your soul and find what you were doing before the storm started. Then create that peaceful condition again. Another thought, we humans think that everything is in our control, which it is not! Acknowledge and action that you can only control yourself as that perspective is really freeing when it becomes your reality. Also helpful here is to realise just like the camel doesn't get a good or bad life, it gets a life. You also do not get a good or bad life, you are granted a life. How you view life is up to you. But please do remember if you keep thinking negative thought, your whole life will feel like a negative, never ending story.

Adapt to stop unwanted particles in your eyes

Camels have extra-long eye lashes, which gives protection to the eyes. It prevents  sand particles from coming in its eyes. Next time you are presented with destructive words apply you imaginary long lashes so that the toxic particles cannot get into your eyes and poison your soul. Please do remember you have the choice to let things play in your mind like a cliché movie or you can discard it. Once again it is up to you!

 Adapt to walk on sand

These desert dwellers spread their toes to distribute their weight evenly giving them the ability to walk on sand. When you are faced with a problem you can spread your toes (stretch your mind) so that you also get adept with walking on sand (solve the problem). In my opinion stretching our mind, in this context, is to look at the problem from different angles and then based on the different angles you will discover that the problem is not as big as you perceived it. Then you will come to the conclusion that you as individual human is perfectly equipped to overcome the mole hill that you once viewed as a mountain. Again whether you see a mole hill or a mountain is up to you!

In conclusion we are faced with many different, sometimes challenging scenarios, but how we adapt ourselves to overcome it will lead us to survive or die.
